The Monkey Tail Cactus is highly sought after for its easy care and ornamental qualities. Stems are covered with soft spines and strands of white hair, giving it a furry appearance. As this plant matures, its stems will sprawl and hang – ideal for a hanging basket.
As if that isn't eye-catching enough, this cactus produces salmon red flowers along its stems in the spring and summer.
A fun one to watch grow! Each stem can grow by nearly a foot every year.
This cactus is not very demanding, but ideal care and conditions include:
- at least 10 hours of bright, direct sunlight (in summer)
- deeply water once the soil has completely dried out (soak and dry method)
- lightly water every 6-8 weeks in winter when the plant is dormant
- well-draining soil
