Common Name: Bird of Paradise
A delightfully easy-care plant, the Bird of Paradise has large, upright, grey-green paddle-shaped leaves and when they are happiest in high light, they will produce orange, red, and blue flowers that resemble a bird flying.
Try to stick to a regular watering schedule, giving your plant a big drink once the top 2in of soil has dried out. Intolerant to sitting in a puddle of their own water, so empty saucers and provide well-draining soil.
Provide vast amounts of light, even some direct morning sunlight. A sunny window or patio is ideal, but avoid chilly drafts – they resent temperatures below 50 degrees F.
An extra tip:
- While a slow grower above soil, roots grow fast and strong so consider repotting them at the start of spring for growing season.
